Good Viewing Spots
With Lake Superior on our front doorstep, the skies to the north are dark most nights. Here are some other good spots in the area to get a wide view of the heavens:
Grand Sable Lake Overlook
The overlook is just a few minutes west of town on H-58 and offers great views to the south, over the lake.
Kingston Plains
This cutover area is a remnant of the lumber boom. A fire burned through here many years ago and regrowth has been slow. From town, Take M-77 south to Adams Trail (8 miles) and turn west. Kingston Plains is another 7-8 miles west.
Burt Township Airport
Our small grass airstrip is an excellent place to skywatch. The runway is unlit. From town, go three miles east to Airport Road and turn south. The airport is about four miles south.
Perry’s Landing
This secluded beach is ten miles east of town on H-58. There is a state forest campground to the west. The skies over the lake are open and free of lights.
