Cook Curtis and Miller Sawmill

Grand Marais was a lumber boomtown at one point, and several
sawmills dotted the shores of Grand Marais Bay.  The Cook,
Curtis, and Miller sawmill was one of the largest, and stood
on the south side of the bay.  The shell of the windowless machinery
building at the left side of the photo still stands; it was made out
of cement to contain the risk of fire.  The rest of the
buildings were torn down after the lumber boom went bust.
