A fundraising drive is underway to build a beautiful playground on the beach at Bayshore Park, near the bath house. Grand Marais doesn't have a public playground in the downtown area for all kids to use, and this has been a dream for a number of years. This year, it might just become a reality! After consulting with the kids at Burt Township School and working with the design team from Superior Play , we have a wonderful plan for a new playground. The new playground has swings, slides, a climbing net, a climbing wall, climbing poles, diggers, spinners, a see-saw, music-makers, even a Bait and Tackle Storefront! And it is ADA accessible so everyone can have fun.
This will be a "community build" project, meaning that our community will not only raise the money for it, we'll actually put it together. This wil save a sizable chunk of money. (More on that as spring approaches.) Benches and picnic tables are also planned for this area so families can gather and use it for parties, reunions, or just a fun day at the beach!

The total cost of the playground is approximately $60,000. A fundraising campaign in underway and the Grand Marais Chamber of Commerce kick-started the efforts by "adopting" the swings for a donation of $2580. There are two ways to donate: Be a Play Piece Sponsor and "adopt" one of the playground elements by donating the cost of that piece, or be a Family Fun Sponsor and make a flat donation. Here are the details:
Play Piece Sponsor
We have a list of all the individual pieces of equipment that will complete
the playground. Sponsors who wish to "adopt" a piece of the playground
in honor of someone special (maybe a family of someone specials) can make
a donation to cover the cost. The donor's name, along with the equipment
name and the honoree(s), will be listed on a permanent Donors Plaque that
will be placed near the playground. We'll also send you a "Come Play
in Grand Marais" travel mug and a framed 8x10 photo of the beach or
harbor.
Maybe a family would like to pass the hat and adopt a piece of equipment in honor of the whole family?

Family Fun Sponsor
If you'd prefer to donate a flat amount to this project, we have some nice
