You can always tell when the fish are biting in Grand Marais. Anglers line the pier to catch whitefish, menominee and lake trout. Unfortunately, the best fishing is usually in the worst weather. Relaxing on a sunny day is usually accompanied by very little action. Fishing in Grand Marais gets you away from everything; away from home, away from the TV, away from the job. So, if you want to get away from it all, go fishing in Grand Marais! These links will help you find the best place.
Grand Marais Offshore Challenge - June 24-26, 2011, including a Kids' Fishing Pond from 10am-3pm. For ages 14 and under.
Fishing opportunities abound in and around Grand Marais, no matter what type you enjoy. There are several trout streams and inland lakes throughout the area that provide a plethora of warm water species. Plus, dozens of lakes in the Grand Marais area with public boat launches. Grand Sable Lake, Nawakwa Lake, and the Blind Sucker Flooding are all excellent spots. For more information, visit the Michigan DNR site, where you can search for a boat launch by distance from Grand Marais. They also have maps of lakes in Alger County to help you plan your trip.
Of course, there is also Lake Superior fishing that can be done off the pier or by boat. The Burt Township Marina provides a full service marina on the bay.
