Mystery Photo Solved!

Several readers wrote to tell us that this was taken from approximately where Alverson's Motel/The General Store now stand.  In addition, the Pickle Barrel was moved into town around 1937, and it's not in the first picture, so the top photo dates pre-1937. We went and took a present-day photo.  It's underneath this one.

We had fun enlarging some of the details of the old picture.  Be sure to look all the way to the bottom of the page.

This is one of our favorite close-ups.  Note the STOP sign on the corner.  You don't see them like that anymore!  Was it red and white? One visitor wrote in to tell us it was probably yellow!
