GRAND
MARAIS GARDEN CLUB
2008
Garden Tour and Membership Drive
and Plant Sale
Saturday, June 28, 2008 from 10am - 4pm
We
are happy to announce that our third annual Grand Marais Garden Tour will take
place on June 28th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm starting on the Green Space by the
bay in Grand Marais, Mi, $10.00 admission. With this new date, we are hoping for
a showy display of early season flowers.
We are grateful to all of you
who attended last year's event. It was quite a fiasco. No rain all spring. Then
the day of the tour: rain, wind, and very cold. The tents wanted to fly and poor
Melissa along with her crew was trying to keep the auction items dry. Much to
our surprise and delight, we grossed $1,000 more than the previous year, thanks
to all the hardy souls that attended.
This
year we will be expanding our event. In addition to gardens, music, art, door
prize, and auction, we will be adding gardening workshops. We're hoping to make
this our best year ever.
The workshops will include: soil preparation,
self watering earth boxes, keeping away deer, methods of composting and mulching,
and you can also participate in embellishing a water can with paint. We are really
excited about this new addition.
As many of you know, our proceeds go towards the purchase of The Green Space, and also benefit Eastern UP Search and Rescue. This year part of our proceeds and volunteer work will help Burt Township School establish an edible schoolyard program, which will teach students how to grow and consume healthy foods.
The
purpose of the Grand Marais Garden Club is to stimulate the knowledge and love
of gardening, to share the advantages of association by means of educational meeting,
correspondence and publications, and to restore improve, and protect the quality
of the environment through education. One of the best ways to help a community
is to support a volunteer program. Any questions call Barb at 906-494-2299, or
