We will open the season with the 4th Annual Grand Marais Garden Tour on Saturday June 27th. We will again be hosting garden tour participants with snacks & refreshments, so we invite you all to visit the Gallery & view my new paintings & the current show for this year. I have many wonderful new paintings I've been creating & finishing all winter for you to all see! I will also have a painting in the Grand Marais Garden Tour Silent Auction, as well, so don't forget to go by the see that.
This is a wonderful opportunity to see & hear or local treasure, poet/author Robert Alexander in the Campbell Street Gallery. Robert will read his newest poems, as well as from his recently published book of poetry, "What the Raven Said". Robert is the author of "White Pine Sucker River", & "Five Forks: Waterloo of the Confederacy". Novelist & poet Jim Harrison describes Alexander's "What the Raven Said" as A lucid and totally engrossing book of poems . Harrison says, Five Forks is a splendid and intriguing study. The prose is improbably lucid & lovely". Robert Alexander grew up in Massachusetts. He attended the University of Wisconsin, and for several years taught in the Madison public schools. After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of WisconsinMilwaukee, he worked for many years as a freelance editor. From 1993-1999, he was a consulting editor at New Rivers Press, serving from 1999-2001 as New Rivers' creative director. He is currently editor of the Marie Alexander Poetry Series, at White Pine Press. He divides his time between Madison and Grand Marais, MI.

Campbell Street Gallery welcomes to its stage Claudia Schmidt in concert Sunday, August 16 at 5 p.m. An icon in the folk, blues and now jazz worlds of music, this will,be Claudia's sixth performance in Grand Marais, where she has built a solid and ever-growing following. A Michigan native, Schmidt has covered a lot of musical ground during her 28 years as a touring professional. Schmidts shows...are a lot like falling in love. You never know whats going to happen next, chances are its going to be wonderful, every moment is burned into your memory and you know youll never be the same again, says the San Francisco Bay Guardian. Claudia Schmidt is known to many through her appearances on Garrison Keillors A Prairie Home Companion on NPR beginning in the 1980s. Originally from Detroit, now residing in Traverse City, she has 14 albums to her name since 1979, with her latest entitled Live from the Dakota! We are delighted to have Kitty Donohoe performing with us again. Kitty is a Michigan Emmy-Award winning singer/songwriter with three critically acclaimed CDs, her newest called Northern Border. From Heartfelt ballads to gritty blues, she sings each song as if it were both her first and last time. At age 18, Kitty had already been playing guitar and writing her own songs for a couple of years when she set off for Nova Scotia, where she fell in love with the sounds of fiddles, whistles and accordions--instrumentation which is prominent on all of her recordings. In the 70s, Kitty began performing full-time, opening for folk artists such as Tom Paxton and Tom Rush. In 1986 she recorded her first songwriter album and since then has toured the United States and Canada performing at clubs and festivals.
